In December 2003 as part of the lottery funded arts project "A Way of Seeing" which marked the inaugauration of the new High School, Conrad Molleson put on an event entitled "Drums and Rockets", which was the prototype for our midwinter festival. It featured fireworks, some fire poi swinging by Te Pooka, and a great ceilidh concert with local talent including Jesleppi, Thieving Drunkards and the Atomic Floozies.
In 2005, after a frantic bout of fundraising and at very short notice another DRUMS AND ROCKETS celebration was put together. There wasn't enough time to organise fireworks but we had workshops in Scottish singing and storytelling and a terrific Ceilidh concert, again with local talent. Many thanks to Iain Copeland and Adam Sutherland from the Peatbog Faeries, and to Mike Katz from the Battlefield Band, for coming along and making music that nobody could resist dancing to.
Funding was from Leader Plus and Highland Council. Here are some reminders of that night - first a video of Thieving Drunkards (still doing that lightweight disco thang...not)
Here's a video of the Drunkards from 2005, which Tommy just sent!
